Yup’ik Village

I first traveled to Kwethluk in the late 1990s to document a family living in this tiny Yup’ik village in southwest Alaska. Over the next fifteen years I made eight trips there to chronicle the lives of Vera and Peter Spein, their sons and families and their neighbors. These resilient people, their reliance on year-round subsistence hunting and fishing as well life in and around their remote village stands at the heart of this epic project.
